About us

The Haus der Universität at Schadowplatz 14 is a place of dialogue between science and society in the heart of Düsseldorf. Following extensive renovation, the building was given to Heinrich Heine University for use as an event centre by the van Meeteren Foundation. It has served as an academic conference venue and central forum since 2013 with the aim of anchoring university research/teaching and academic culture at the heart of the city. The rooms can be booked free of charge by university members, but are also available for external events.

The Haus der Universität offers a range of events for interested visitors within the framework of the public programme of the Citizens’ University. In addition, the building is the venue for other public events from the fields of science, society and culture. It is supported by the Haus der Universität Foundation, which is administered by the Gesellschaft von Freunden und Förderern der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf e.V. (Society of Friends and Sponsors of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf).

The Haus der Universität plays a key role at the interface between science and the public for Heinrich Heine University. It is part of the overarching “public engagement strategy” of the university, which actively promotes exchange with the city of Düsseldorf, its citizens and society as a whole. In this way, Heinrich Heine University aims to make scientific findings accessible to the general public and contribute to the understanding and acceptance of research results, while enabling impulses from society to flow back into research.
