The Language of Polarization: Methodological Challenges and Innovative Approaches in Quantitative Text Analysis

The conference is focused on text-based research approaches that revolve around the linguistic analysis of polarization, populism, and populist appeals. It has an interdisciplinary character and is comprised of contributions from the social sciences, computer sciences, and computational linguistics. With the aim to reflect the methodological advances in quantitative text analysis, scholars convene with a focus on German-centric and/or comparative text analysis. We will highlight broad areas of application for text analysis methods in political science, such as: the analysis of party competition, political behaviour, conflicted bargaining positions in trade negotiations, political communication, media-driven propaganda, and misinformation filtering in social media.

Diese Tagung wird durch die Fritz Thyssen Stiftung gefördert.
